How much does 3D printing cost?

It depends on material used, print time and your own rates. This personal FDM estimate adds filament and electricity, plus any machine wear or contingency you choose. It is not a commercial quote.

Why use slicer data instead of uploading an STL?

A solid model's volume does not describe FDM walls, infill, supports or toolpaths. This calculator uses manually entered slicer weight and time; it does not parse STL or G-code files.

What power value should I enter?

Use estimated or measured average power over the print, in watts. Rated maximum power is not the same as average draw. Electricity equals watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by hours and your price per kWh.

Is contingency the same as a failure rate?

No. It is an optional percentage added to filament, electricity and selected wear costs. It does not model the probability or cost of repeated failures.

Can I use this to set a customer price?

Not on its own. Labor, design work, shipping, tax, profit and commercial overhead are outside this personal estimate. The calculator uses USD throughout and does not convert currencies.
